The Travis (Phase I)

Genesis Real Estate Group bought the 2.3-acre site on the western edge of the Rainey Street District in 2017 and demolished the 1980s low-rise condominiums standing there, the Villas on Town Lake, in 2019. GDA Architects of Dallas designed the tower, which Genesis developed with PGIM Real Estate; JLL Capital Markets arranged $173.4 million in construction financing from JPMorgan Chase in February 2022. Apartments range from 601 square feet to penthouses of 2,700 square feet, across studio through three-bedroom plans, with retail at ground level. At financing it was billed as Austin’s tallest single-purpose, for-rent residential high-rise, a qualification distinguishing it from taller condominium towers like the Austonian and the Independent. A second phase on the same holding, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and led by M2 Development Partners, was proposed at 802 feet and has not been built. Waller Beach at Town Lake Metropolitan Park is nearby.
