Anderson Mill in northwest Austin takes its name from the mill Thomas Anderson built on Cypress Creek in the 1860s, first making gunpowder for the Confederacy and later grinding grain. The modern neighborhood began as a municipal utility district in 1973, with homes built from 1975, and it straddles Travis and Williamson counties; Austin annexed it at the end of 2008. It is known for its parks, pools and the trail along Lake Creek, and its apartment buildings sit along Anderson Mill Road, McNeil Drive, Parmer Lane and US 183.
